Anita Larkin’s show “Reasonable Mayhem” opens at Defiance Gallery in Newtown Australia, from July 26 thru August 19, 2017. Anita presents twenty eight of her eclectic sculptures which combine parts of collected objects, felted objects, porcelain renditions of objects and bronze casts of the human body.
I transform the collected object into sculptures evoking a human narrative, revealing a strange beauty within the forgotten and discarded. The works display a wry sense of wit and humor, and play with the suggestion of physical movement or a practical function for the hitherto inanimate object. Anita Larkin
HAF: Anita, one piece in the show that stands out is the bronze cast of human feet and shoe heels, “Enigma” Could you share with us your process of developing this piece?
Anita: The mold is constructed of silicone rubber of a friend’s feet and a shoe heels, which I then model the waxes so that they join and look seamless as one object. The actual bronze casting from the wax I made was done at Crawford Casting in Sydney.
Anita Larkin was born in Australia 1971 and completed a Bachelor of Visual Arts at Sydney College of The Arts in 1993. She has exhibited extensively around Australia including with Defiance Gallery since 2002, in group shows such as the Annual 6″ Miniature Sculpture show. Recent solo exhibitions have been held at Defiance Gallery in 2009 and 2011, and Wollongong City Gallery 2007, and her work was displayed at the Hungarian National Gallery in 2004.
