plastic trash into art project
Reenie Charrière continues her commitment to the environment, contributing once again to the HAF “plastic trash into art” project. Her installation “Float: the gravity of the situation consists of plastic bags she has collected from around the world, opened in May and continues until July at InsideOut Gallery in Sacramento California.
I am most interested in how objects are situated in everyday spaces. My work is motivated by the drama of landscapes and waterways, urban and rural. I experiment by transforming everyday materials, putting them into unexpected circumstances. Through drawing and sculpture, my installations play upon the unpredictable juxtaposition of natural and synthetic matter. float refers to the insurmountable accumulation of plastic in the world. Whether it is on the ground, in the water, or in the air, it is an eerie, lingering presence
Reenie Charrière received her MFA in 2009 from Maine College of Art in Portland, Maine. She currently resides in Oakland, California. Earlier this year Charriere participated in Hannacc can Bourni residency in Barcelona, Spain.
