Salifou Lindou will be sharing his work, “politicians” at 1:54 Contemporary African Art Fair, London, which opens October 8 through the 10, 2020. This series is pastel on paper.
Born in 1965, Salifou lives and works in Douala, Cameroon, he is one of the Cameroonian artists recognized on national and international levels. His works are a mixture of materials: drawing, painting, collages, and sculpture renderings in a variety of mediums.
In tune with the world and inspired by his environment, Salifou feeds his art with daily scenes of life. The topic of politicians came to his mind while he was watching television. On paper, he captures from these energetic debates – collections of chosen expressions and studied speeches – the humoristic mimics of these men wearing suits.
1:54 is the first leading international art fair dedicated to contemporary art from Africa and its diaspora. Founded by Touria El Glaoui, the fair is held annually in London since 2013, New York, since 2015, and Marrakech since 2018. Its name is a reference to the fifty-four countries that constitute the African continent. 1-54 is a sustainable and dynamic platform that is engaged in contemporary dialogue and exchange. Salifou’s work will be shown in London at The Somerset House, which will be joined by over 110 emerging and established artists from Africa and the diaspora, presenting a variety of mediums and from a wide range of geographic backgrounds.
